能ある鷹は爪を隠す

のうあるたかはつめをかくす

 



優れた能力の持ち主は、それを人に自慢したり、
見せびらかしたりしない ということです。

 

すぐれたのうりょくのもちぬしは、それを ひとにじまんしたり、
みせびらかしたりしない ということです。

 


 
"Nou aru taka wa tsume o kakusu" means "The hawk with talent hides his claws." This means that you shouldn't show off everything you have. A wise man keeps some of his talents in reserve.

  1. MelHaraguchi replied: Avatar I appreciate this saying because I also admire people who do not brag and are humble. The kind of people that let "actions speak louder than their words". We live in a society where people are not as humble and are always looking for self glorification. I admire people who are talented but do not brag about it.
